Strata Adds Digital Wi-Fi to Communications Portfolio

Release March 15, 2012

ATLANTA– Strata Products Worldwide LLC is very pleased to announce that, through an exclusive reseller agreement with Canadian-based Active Control Technology Inc. (ACT), it has expanded its underground communications portfolio to include Intrinsically Safe digital Wi-Fi.

The Strata Wi-Fi network is both voice and data capable, enabling personnel underground to use any standard 802.11 Wi-Fi-ready device for communication. The system features two types of access points; one that leverages fiber and one that is fully wireless and battery powered.

With the use of an MSHA-approved Voice over IP (VoIP) handheld phone, that features exceptional clarity and noise cancellation, miners can make private, direct-dial voice communications from anywhere in the mine; including the active face.  The new handsets enable miner to miner, miner to surface and miner to outside communications.

Additionally, Strata plans to offer Intrinsically Safe Digital Wi-Fi Tablets and PDA devices, which will allow access to the corporate Intranet and the Internet from underground. Real-time access to important documents such as maintenance manuals, up-to-date equipment schematics mine maps, productivity reports and time cards will be possible.

“With Strata’s addition of digital Wi-Fi, we can now offer customers a comprehensive communications package that is extremely flexible,” states National Sales Director Chris Adkins. “Strata CommTrac, our proprietary wireless data communications and tracking system, covers MSHA’s PPL requirements and the digital Wi-Fi phones deliver stand-alone voice communications.”
