Strata Barricades
In a mine emergency, Strata Barricades are used to close-off or create
isolated areas when mine evacuation is not possible. Barricades are designed
to be rapidly constructed. Strata Barricades are packaged as a complete
kit including all tools required for construction.
The Barricade System includes Strata Products' Lock-N-Load roof support prop. Fully adjustable & quick to install, one or two men raise the upper support member to the roof and secure it to the floor member with a clamp.

For barricades constructed in an entry, Lock-N-Loads are installed at both ribs and in the center of the entry. Framing timbers are then nailed to Lock-N-Loads at the roof and floor. Brattice cloth is attached tightly and securely to timbers to form the barricade. Polyurethane foam is then sprayed to seal the edges. A gas detector can be used to test for leaks and to monitor air quality inside the area.

Strata Safety offers a Barricade Air Skid which includes a breathing
air system and additional compressed air cylinders for purging air contaminants.
The breathing air system maintains fresh, breathable air for 96 hours.
The Barricade Air Skid which houses the breathing system is made of explosion
resistant steel and can
be placed permanently in a safe room or moved around
the mine as the coal face advances. In an emergency, miners locate the
skid containing the air system and optional supplies, barricade themselves
and activate the air system. Click for more information on the Barricade
Air Skid .
