Carbon Dioxide Scrubbers for Mining

Strata Carbon Dioxide Scrubbers are active, stand-alone systems designed to remove CO2 and maintain safe breathable air in enclosed areas. They are either electrical or air-powered.

ACTIVE CARBON DIOXIDE REMOVAL

Strata active scrubbers have built-in fan systems that actively draw air into the scrubber and push it out through soda lime chemicals to scrub the CO2, Over time the soda lime needs to be exchanged and a change-out schedule, based on the number of occupants, is provided. Strata scrubbers maintain CO2 levels below 10,000 ppm (1%).

Soda Lime Cartridges

The Strata ActiveAir Scubber utilizes specially design soda lime cartridges called SodaSorb™ Cartridges. These prevent spillage and eliminate airborne dust particles as the soda lime is used. They are easy to store and easy to handle and the compact packaging prevents “channeling” of the chemicals.

Power

The Strata ActiveAir™ scrubber is connected to the chambers main power source. Either mine power or the chamber battery back-up. Standard battery life is 48 hours (scalable). There is also an optional stand-alone power station that provides a bank of batteries, dedicated to the scrubber.

Oxygen

Low pressure oxygen cylinders equipped with individual flow-rate meters regulate the release of oxygen into the environment. These are set according to the number of occupants and provide up to 5.5 LPM distribution per oxygen cylinder. It is imperative to maintain oxygen levels between 19 and 22.5%.

Atmospheric Monitoring

Incorporated into the design of the ActiveAir scrubber are Trolex Sentro 1 gas monitors which continuously monitor CO2 and O2 levels. If gas levels rise or fall to dangerous levels, the sensors emit audible and visual alarms to alert the occupants.

Change-out Timer

A built-in timer, set according to the number of occupants, is included to alert occupants when cartridge change-outs are recommended.

 

STRATA TRAY SCRUBBER

Strata Tray Scrubbers utilize loose soda lime chemicals, poured into the top tray and evenly distributed. A built-in fan system actively draws air into the scrubber and push it out through the soda lime chemicals to scrub CO2.

Initially white, the chemicals slowly change to violet as they are used and these then need to be changed. A change-out schedule is provided. Used chemicals can be discarded under the seats, or onto the floor where they will continue to provide scrubbing capabilities.

Tubs of fresh supplies are stored under the seats.

Oxygen

Low pressure oxygen cylinders equipped with individual flow-rate meters regulate the release of oxygen into the environment. Strata uses two types of flow regulators; the ball valve flow meter and the dial pin index flow regulator.

AIR-POWERED SCRUBBER

Strata Air-Powered Scrubbers utilize SodaSorb™ cartridges, compressed air cylinders and compressed oxygen cylinders.

Compressed Air

Air flow from high-pressure compressed-air cylinders drives the built-in fan system to operate the scrubber. Standard supplies operate the scrubber for 96 hours (scalable).

Oxygen

Compressed oxygen cylinders replenish oxygen levels. A flow rate meter controls the flow of oxygen and is set according to the number of occupants. It is imperative to maintain oxygen levels between 19 and 22.5%.
