Strata Worldwide has officially launched a wireless, battery powered toxic and combustible gas detection system developed specifically for shale gas drilling rigs. Strata’s RigGuard™ gas detectors magnetically mount directly onto gas rigs and continuously monitor methane (CH4), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), oxygen (O2) and carbon monoxide (CO) levels.
RigGuard emits a 125dB audible and multi-colored visual alarm when high gas concentrations are detected. All data is reported over StrataConnect™ networks to the RigGuard PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) located either on the rig or at a nearby office. It can also be sent off-site to a central RigGuard Control Center over Internet, cellular or satellite connection to provide remote monitoring, alerting, historical data and trending analysis.
The RigGuard PLC features a full color digital touch-screen display that requires no external antennas or data cables. It is powered by a standard 120VAC.
The Intrinsically Safe (IS) gas detectors are completely wireless and battery operated. The power from commercially available D-cell batteries lasts an average of 40 to 50 days, and the battery voltage readings are tracked on the RigGuard PLC. The dual-wall housing of the gas detectors give the monitors maximum impact strength and an IP65 rating for use in harsh operating conditions. Stainless steel sensor shields guard the sensor modules and provide additional protection.
